“I want to sing like birds, not worrying who listens or what they think.” – Rumi
Dear Brilliant Community,
I almost didn’t send this newsletter. Then I realized—that hesitation? That’s exactly what we need to talk about.
The conversations I’ve been having with myself lately all come back to this: I am not afraid.
That doesn’t mean I don’t feel fear. It means I’ve stopped letting it run me.
This summer I picked up The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success again. Each law hits me in its own way, but Law #6—the Law of Detachment—has been my teacher these past few weeks.
The law doesn't say let go of your dreams. It says let go of your attachment to outcomes. Don't grip so tightly that you miss the present.
Because I know what it feels like to clutch a goal—I need this contract, I need this opportunity, I need this to work out. And yet, the more I practice being present, the more I realize: the work, the intention, the clarity I bring—that's “the song”. The rest will unfold in its time.
Last week at Launch Raleigh, I walked into class and heard: “You’ve got to pitch today.” Wait . . .what? I hadn’t prepared. No notes, no script. And yet, I stood up and pitched Brilliant Corners Innovations. That moment reminded me of Rumi’s words—sing like birds, not worrying who listens or what they think.
And then I thought of Stevie Wonder. One of my all-time favorite albums is Songs in the Key of Life. There’s a song tucked into that masterpiece—Ngiculela – Es Una Historia – I Am Singing -It is a Story—and every time I hear it, something in me breaks open. The verse goes:
“Tomorrow will be for you and me.
I am singing for tomorrow,
I am singing of love.
I am singing someday love will reign throughout this world of ours.
I am singing of love from my heart.”
Every time I hear that song, I remember what it feels like to release fear. To just sing.
And Nina Simone, who knew a thing or two about fighting for freedom, once put it even more plainly: “I’ll tell you what freedom is to me. No fear. I mean really, no fear.”

That’s what I want for myself. That’s what I want for you.
Fear blocks us—sometimes in ways we don’t even notice. It slows down our dreams. It keeps us tweaking and hesitating when all we need to do is step forward. But when you loosen your grip, when you sing your song with clarity and intention, you begin to live without fear.
This work—learning to move through fear with clarity—isn’t just personal. It’s the core challenge I see with every team I work with at Brilliant Corners. We help leaders and teams move through confusion, distraction, and hesitation into clarity, confidence, and courage. We help you find your voice and use it, even when you’re not sure who’s listening.
Reflection for readers:
Where are you gripping too tightly right now? What would it feel like to loosen your grip, to sing your song without fear?
📅 If this resonates, and you're ready to move from hesitation to clarity in your work, I invite you to book a Clarity Call to explore what’s possible for you, your business, or your team. Or simply hit reply and share what’s on your mind. I’d love to hear your story.
Onward,
Soyini
